On 2nd March, my husband gave me a long pep talk while we were strolling on the roof. And it’s nothing unusual. We talk a lot about goals and everything, but the problem with me is I always get back to my old habits.
And this bothers me a lot.
For a long time, I was stuck in the victim mindset so I believed that there was not enough time for me to do everything else. I can’t go to work, travel for 3 hours, and still code and write after doing some household chores.
I have made a lot of schedules, but I give up after a week or two because things get too hectic and my immediate stress response was to quit, read, and cry.
This time I knew I had to do something different.
And if you have read the last few emails of mine, you know that I’m trying to change my habits this year.
After this reality check with my husband, I knew I had to do one thing I have always dreaded.
I have to get up early!
I have always been a night owl, so even the idea of waking up at 5 sucked. But if I wanted to do everything, I knew I had to take some drastic steps.
I have to make time for my goals before it gets too late.
So, I finally did it for a week, and this happened:
My sleep is better. I go to bed early because I am so tired by 10 pm that I can’t keep my eyes open even if I want to.
I have time to relax. Just by waking up early, it feels like I have a lot of time for myself. Mostly because in the morning when everyone is asleep, you don’t have any other responsibilities. It’s just you and the silence.
My mood is a little better. Maybe it’s because the beginning of my days are no longer hectic and rushed. I can take my time to just sit in silence and breathe.
That’s it.
Mostly, I am just proud of myself for sticking with this for more than three days.
I slept in on Monday because I had a very hectic Sunday. But other than that, it’s going great and I hope this time I don’t give up.
If you’re over the edge about deciding to start your day early, don’t hesitate.
I have talked to a lot of successful people and almost every single one of them said that during their 9 to 5, they woke up early to write and do other stuff they won’t have time to do during the day.
That’s it for today. I’ll see you next week!
